The Evergreens is a welcoming walking club that has been exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Ilkley area since 1974, celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2024. The club is built on a foundation of friendship and a shared love for walking, welcoming both experienced walkers and novices alike.

Walking with The Evergreens

The club offers a choice of two walks every Tuesday, with groups to suit different fitness levels:

  • The Eights: Walks of 7-9 miles.
  • The Tens: Walks of 9-12 miles with more ascent.

You are free to move between the groups as you wish. The club has a library of nearly 350 diverse walks within 30 miles of Ilkley, exploring destinations like the Yorkshire Dales, South Pennines, and Forest of Bowland.

How it Works

There is no formal membership or subscription fee. You can simply turn up when you are able, and you are only asked to contribute to petrol costs for car sharing. The club organizes car sharing from Ilkley, Addingham, and Skipton, or you can meet the group directly at the starting point of the walk.

A detailed program of walks is published every four months, with a map and route profile distributed by email each week.

The Evergreens also organises occasional coach trips, holidays, an annual slide show, and a lunch. The only rule is that dogs are not permitted on the walks.
