The Jack Bloor Memorial Fund was established in 1985 to commemorate Jack Bloor, a legendary Yorkshire athlete who excelled in fell running, climbing, orienteering, and caving. The Fund’s trustees continue his passion by encouraging young people to enjoy the outdoors while aiming to fulfil their potential.
The Fund provides small grants (up to 50% of total costs, maximum £400) to help improve physical and/or technical skills in recognized outdoor adventure sports. This support can cover costs related to:
- Training for a competition
- Embarking on an expedition
- Undertaking an outdoor skills course
- Being selected for an international event
Eligibility Criteria:
Grants are available to individuals who are under 26 years old and either live or are based in Yorkshire. Applicants must also be members of a recognised Yorkshire Sports Club, a National Sport Governing Body (NSGB), or a Yorkshire Scout, Guide, or Explorer Group.
Application Process:
Applications are welcomed all year round. It is crucial that the application form is received before the start of the trip or event. Due to the volume of applications, a response may take up to 4–8 weeks.
All monies for the Fund are primarily raised through donations and the annual Jack Bloor Fell Race held on Ilkley Moor.
Further details and the online application form are available on the official website.
