lkley Thingery: Borrow, Repair, Share

The Ilkley Thingery is your local community “Library of Things”—a place where you can borrow what you need, share what you have, and help build a more sustainable future for Ilkley.

Born from a vision by Climate Action Ilkley and supported by a grant from Beyondly, the Thingery is a non-profit hub dedicated to reducing waste and saving you money. Why buy a power drill or a camping tent you’ll only use once a year when you can borrow it for pennies?

What Can You Borrow?

Our library is stocked with a massive range of items available to members for a fraction of the cost of buying new. Our inventory includes:

• DIY & Tools: Drills, saws, and home maintenance gear.
• Gardening: Lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, and hand tools.
• Kitchen & Home: Specialty appliances and hosting equipment.
• Adventure: Camping gear, board games, and toys.

How It Works

• Join: Membership is designed to be accessible to everyone, starting at just £2 per year.
• Browse: Check our online catalogue to see what’s available or pop in during opening hours.
• Borrow: Borrowing fees are low, typically ranging from £0.37 to £3 per day. (Ask us about discounts for longer-term loans!)
• Request: Looking for something specific? Check our Wish List. If you have an item to donate or loan, please email us first to ensure we have the space!
• Our Vision: Community Powered

The Thingery is more than just a tool shed; it’s a movement. We aim to foster social connections and promote environmentally aware behaviour by making resource-sharing the “new normal.”

Get Involved!

The Thingery belongs to the community, and we need your help to grow.

• Volunteer: We are currently open 3 days a week. With more volunteers to process loans, repair stock, or PAT test electronics, we could open even more often!
• Donate: Support the project through equipment donations (by appointment) or financial contributions.
• Visit Us: Drop by our new home on Cunliffe Road to see how we can help you with your next project.
